I am so excited to share my Atelier Homeschool Art Review. The Atelier Homeschool Art Program is an online art curriculum designed specifically for homeschooling families. It provides a structured and sequential approach to teaching art skills and techniques to children from pre-kindergarten through high school and is designed to develop students’ artistic skills and appreciation of art while also accommodating their individual pace and interests.
The program follows the Atelier method, which emphasizes hands-on learning and encourages students to develop their artistic abilities through practice and observation. It covers a wide range of art disciplines, including drawing, painting, sculpting, and mixed media.
The curriculum is divided into levels that correspond to the different grade levels. Each level consists of a series of lessons that build upon each other, gradually introducing new concepts and skills. The program incorporates age-appropriate projects and exercises to help students explore various artistic techniques and develop their creativity.
One of the notable features of the Atelier Homeschool Art Program is its video-based instruction. The curriculum includes instructional videos that demonstrate art techniques and guide students through the lessons. This visual component makes it easier for students to understand and follow along with the instructions. The lessons are designed to teach students the fundamentals of art, including color theory, composition, perspective, and texture. Each lesson includes step-by-step demonstrations, as well as assignments that help students to put the concepts they learn into practice.
The program also provides homeschooling parents with comprehensive support materials, such as lesson plans, teaching guides, and assessment tools. These resources help parents effectively implement the art curriculum and track their child’s progress. Plus, the program/curriculum is led by professional artists.
Art is an essential part of a child’s education for many reasons. Here are a few of the key reasons why art is important for children:
1. Creativity: Art allows children to express their creativity and develop their imagination. Art projects provide an outlet for children to explore new ideas, experiment with materials, and create something unique.
2. Self-expression: Art provides children with a way to express themselves that may not be possible through other forms of communication. Children can communicate their feelings, thoughts, and experiences through art, which can be especially important for children who may not have the words to express themselves verbally.
3. Fine motor skills: Art projects help develop children’s fine motor skills, which are crucial for tasks such as writing, drawing, and using tools like scissors and paint brushes. Fine motor skills are also linked to cognitive development and the ability to solve problems.
4. Observation skills: Creating art requires children to observe the world around them and to pay attention to details such as color, shape, and texture. This skill transfers to other areas of life such as science and math, where observation and attention to detail are important.
5. Emotional development: Art can help children develop emotional intelligence by providing a way to process emotions and understand the feelings of others. Art can also boost children’s confidence and self-esteem, which are important for social and academic success.
The Atelier Homeschool Art Program is specially designed for homeschoolers who are in search of an online art curriculum. The program is structured to provide students with a fundamental art education to develop their artistic skills and appreciation for art individually at their own pace. One of the unique features of the Atelier Homeschool Art Program is its self-paced format. The program is designed to be flexible so that students can work at their own pace, completing lessons as quickly or slowly as they need to. This flexibility makes it a great fit for homeschooling families with different schedules and learning styles.
The program includes various lessons and projects covering topics like painting, drawing, sculpture, and much more. Atelier also features an expanded program that covers additional projects and lessons. To further assist homeschooling parents, Atelier provides an art curriculum guide that offers support in incorporating art into homeschooling children’s lessons.
The Atelier Homeschool Art Program is a comprehensive and flexible art curriculum, facilitating the artistic growth of homeschooling children. The program is informative, appealing, and recommended for those seeking to develop their children’s artistic proficiency and passion for art.
The online resources for each course include video lessons, Parents’ and Teachers’ Handbook, artwork images, and Art Print Guides for each of the artworks. Parents’ and Teachers’ Handbook has lesson plans for the 20 primary lessons, a list of supplies, a bibliography, teaching tips, and biographies of artists whose styles are featured in the program. Osterink, the program’s creator, teaches the lesson videos of an average of 15 to 20 minutes that follow a similar format covering four components: required materials, an introduction to the lesson, guiding students through the project, and examples of completed student artwork. The lessons include a student handout with vocabulary words and response/evaluation questions for discussion. The projects are easy to complete, and there is a great deal of variety among them, so students learn new techniques and skills.
Over 1,000,000 students in schools and homes throughout America are using the ATELIER art lessons for children to develop their artistic and creative skills, to learn about artists, art-principles and art-history, and to develop the creative capacities of the right side of the brain.
