Homeschool Success Stories

Overall Success of Homeschooling

Homeschool students typically score 15 – 30% above their public school counterparts on standardized achievement tests.

Wow – that’s pretty amazing!

And did you know?  There is absolutely no correlation between homeschoolers’ scores and

  • their parents’ level of education
  • their family’s household income
  • having a parent with a teaching credential. (In other words, you can teach your child just as well, or better than a certified teacher).

In addition, homeschoolers score above average on the SAT and ACT tests. This is one of the reasons colleges actively recruit homeschoolers.

Speaking of college, here’s an interesting study!  Dr. Michael Cogan studied homeschool students at a small, mid-west college, and he found that homeschooled students maintained a higher GPA through-out their college years (a 3.46 average compared to their counterparts with 3.16 average). In addition, Cogan found that homeschoolers had a higher graduation rate (66.7% compared to 57.5%).

Socialization

Homeschoolers do a lot in terms of socialization. They take field trips, belong to a variety of clubs and organizations, perform volunteer work, play on sports teams, have mentors in the community, etc.   Really, socialization is not an issue!  In fact, numerous studies show that homeschooled children are better socialized and more mature than their public school counterparts.  Wowza!

Very Successful and Homeschooled

Many successful people have been homeschooled.  To name just a few:

Thomas Edison – homeschooled from the age of 12. His mother removed him from school after a teacher insinuated that he was slow.

Susan B. Anthony -was enrolled in a public school when she was young.  Her parents chose homeschooling after one of her teachers refused to teach her long division.

Serena Williams – started homeschooling as a pre-teen. Due to homeschooling, she had time to focus on her tennis career.

Taylor Swift – homeschooled through her junior and senior years of high school. Again, due to homeschooling, she had the time necessary to focus on her career.
