Founded in 1999, Global Village School is a unique private school-homeschool hybrid. Global Village School offers a highly individualized K-8 and high school enrollment program where students earn WASC-accredited diplomas via distance learning. At Global Village School, the world is our classroom, and enrolled families have regular access to seasoned social justice-minded teachers.
A wide variety of families and groups have found our values compatible. We have secular homeschoolers, Buddhists, UUs, LGBTQIA+ families, families that have enjoyed Montessori and Waldorf schools, unschooling families, students dedicated to self-directed learning, families centered around acting and sports achievement, students living abroad, and families who are international travelers.
We have students who are academically advanced and self-directed, while others need more support to help them thrive. We see students who are introverts, and others who are the life of the party. We welcome students who are already activist-minded alongside those who want to learn to be. We work with experienced homeschoolers who are seeking support or worried about college, and we mentor families fresh out of public schooling.
Our families include students with learning and life challenges that several Global Village School parents have affectionately referred to as “alphabet soup,” such as ADD, ADHD, ODD, and OCD. We’ve accommodated students with dyslexia, and dysgraphia diagnoses alongside non-verbal students. We also work with youth experiencing moderate to severe anxiety, depression, and PTSD and those on the autistic spectrum.
However they come to us and wherever they come from, most GVS students are creative, passionate, free spirits excited about life-long learning and making the world a better place.
