The Crossroads of Science and Faith: Astronomy Through a Christian Worldview is a unique high school astronomy textbook that was written by professional astronomers who are Christians. It is scientifically rigorous and includes an introduction to the Science & Faith Dialogue.
This textbook is a labor of love, born out of a desire to make a difference in helping change the sad reality that many homeschoolers are losing their faith in secular colleges. Research shows that confusion about science and faith issues plays an important role in this outcome.
Goals
- Equip students to engage in thoughtful dialogue related to contemporary scientific discoveries in a secular environment and defend their faith with sound reasoning.
- Strengthen the students’ faith by presenting evidence of design in the universe – fine tuning in the laws of physics
- Inspire students by giving them role models, about 30 interviews with top level professional astronomers who are believers.
- Inspire a sense of awe, wonder and worship as students explore the vastness of space and learn about astronomy.
This one-year astronomy curriculum contains two parts.
Part I – an Introduction to the science and faith dialogue that provides students the tools to better relate what they believe with what they learn about science and gives discernment of philosophical agendas of our culture.
Part II – Astronomy as a discipline. Includes topics such as history, the night sky, the sun, solar system, exoplanets, stars, black holes, supernovae, the Milky Way galaxy, other galaxies, the large-scale structure of the universe, cosmology and many others.
The Crossroads of Science and Faith: Astronomy Through a Christian Worldview textbook encourages the search for truth in every area and promotes dialogue and integration between science and faith while also being grounded in a Christian worldview, where God is the Author, Creator, and Designer of the universe.
